Good morning Prof. Dr. Vaudaux,

I have found your email on the “tbe-info” web site. One year ago my husband has been affected by TBE. We live in a risk area (Italy). We have a daughter 20 months old and we don’t know if she is too
young to receive vaccine. I have received different answer and so I would like to found an expert
answer. Can you help me or can you indicate me an expert at this problem?

2. Question

Dear Madam/Sir,

My partner and I intend to travel to Austria (Lermoos) for our summer holiday in July together with our kids aged 5 and 7.

We live in Romania where apparently vaccination against tick bites is not yet available.

Please be so kind to advise on the options we have for getting the vaccine. Is it available at the local physicians in Lermoos? Is it ok to have the vaccine in our first day there or do we need to travel to Austria before in order to have it?

We are really concerned about this and rely on your professional advice.

ich bin aktuell in der 18. Schwangerschaftswoche und plane Mitte Juli eine einwöchige Reise nach Kitzbühel/Österreich.
Ist es empfehlenswert, sich in diesem Falle jetzt gegen FSME impfen zu lassen?

I was bitten by a tick, the tick was removed by an emergency doctor. I took two Doxycicline pills and I'll take one per day for a while. What else should I do? Is it too late for TBM vaccine?

Dear Madam or Sir,
I will travel with my husband and my 3 children (3 month old , 2 years od and 4,5 years old) in Austria and more specifically at the tyrolian area - Bad Gastein, Alpach and Sankt Anton). We will not go climbing on the mountains but we will visite the surrounding nature for a walk. Do we need to take vaccination? Thank you in advance for your response.

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
Ihr Link ist auf der Infoseite "FSME-Impfung" gelistet, daher darf ich mich mit folgender Frage an Sie wenden: Bei mir wäre heuer eine Auffrischungsimpfung fällig, allerdings bin ich Mitte Juni wg. eines Blinddarmdurchbruches operiert worden und wurde über eine Woche massiv mit Antibiotika behandelt. Darf ich nach dieser OP nun schon eine Impfung erhalten?

Dear Sir or Madam,
My wife and I are travelling overland through France, Germany and Austria and on to Romania where we will be staying near a town called Miklosvar, north of Brasov in mid September this year. We will be staying in old hunting lodges in the Carpathian mountains (Kalnoky Estate) and are likely to be walking,riding and visiting rural and forested areas in that locality. My question is :- do we need to consider innoculation against TBE. Also, are there any significant side effects associated with the vaccine.
